Map ideas for me!

Hi All,

Just wondered if anyone has any good ideas for a line battle or scrim map to make, anything from a castle to a cave  I dunno, I need something to start with!

Why not try to replicate some actual battlefields from the revolution as accurately as possible.
Example:
Battle of Monmouth (My hometown)

Nice idea! Do you have any pictures by any chance? There are some schematic maps on wiki but It'd be nice to have a firmer feel for the look of the place.

Rumpel, I took pictures but it's basically just slightly hilly land and trees with a big house to the side.

Well, there's something that I've been wondering if you'd have any idea how to fix it. There's a problem with bg_helmsdeep. It only runs on a dedicated server and wont run on a server that's being hosted by a server hosting service. Death has attempted to remedy this but I have never heard of the likes of it before. I will try and take a look, but without the save file of the map I can only try to decompile and recompile; but that in itself can break stuff. I could probably do a remake if you're interested. Though I am more busy with work now so It would be a bit of an undertaking lol.

Well whatever you're interested in doing, don't feel forced to do anything for the sake of doing it. It's just a good map and that's why I suggested it Smile

So, been at a loose end this w/e so made a go of a revamp of helms deep. Strong influence from the original, I may even recreate the siege tower etc. Looks good to me; what do you think?

Only issue I think is that the scale is too large for most bg games, but I may be able to fix that.

Any neat features or anything anyone thinks would be good and let me know here!

Also any ideas about how the map should progress would be good; to make use of all areas. I have a start on this, but not sure it's the best. Right now;

- Brits defend
- Americans Attack

1. Brits spawn on curtain wall, and try to stop americans taking the culvert.
1. Americans spawn out in front of culvert and take it. When they do it blows a hole in the wall.

2. Brits spawn inside curtain wall (camp area), and try to defend a flag there.
2. Americans spawn in same place and try to get inside and take camp flag, when they do it enables the flag at the gate.

3. Brits spawn on wall above the main gate, try to defend the flag outside the gate.
3. Americans spawn in front of slope up to gate, try to take it. When they do it enables the flag outside the keep.

4. Brits spawn on keep wall, try to defend.
4. Americans spawn at the top of the slope, try to take flag outside of keep gate (quite a long way, but I think it means there will be fighting all over the castle). When they do it enables the tower flag.

5. Not sure where brits should spawn for this, not up the tower cause its too easy to defend. I may make it so no more spawn, the remainder - if there are any need to scamble up there to defend.
5. Americans try to take the flag at the top of the tower. And fullcap.

new version to try out Smile (new_helmsdeep_v5)

Needs proper playing to balance flag caps etc so that both teams can win! Next stop linebattle map.
